I'm a winner!

I frequently wander around book blogs -- there are thousands out there but some have caught my fancy and those you can see listed, over to the right, under "All about Reading". Most of these blogs are concerned with historical fiction, which is my favorite of all genres (specifically HF which feature real people as characters), but a few encompass a wide variety of novels (and some non-fiction). I admit I read very little in the contemporary vein but, sometimes, because of these bloggers, I find something I would have otherwise missed.

The really great thing about these blogs is that they often give books away -- I don't enter all of the contests because sometimes I already have the book or, occasionally, it's something which just doesn't strike my fancy but I've entered quite a few over the last few months -- and, today, for the first time, I won one. I'm looking forward to reading Royal Blood by Rona Sharon -- in fact, I almost bought this at Borders the other day -- because I can't remember what contests I've entered!

So, much thanks to Arleigh over at Historical-Fiction! Please hop on over and visit her blog -- lots of great giveaways and reviews -- and other historical anecdotes.

Speaking of book reviews -- as I've stated before, this is not a review blog -- but I just finished reading a novel which, I believe, most historical fiction readers have either read or would know about. But, it just sort of left me going, huh? It wasn't a bad book -- in fact, I did actually enjoy reading it and it was well-written -- but part of my enjoyment was the anticipation that "something is about to happen" -- but it never really did. So, by the time I got to the end, I was left with a sense of disappointment. I have another of this author's books -- supposedly, that one is better than the one I just read. We shall see. Eventually. Not sure where it is on my ever-expanding TBR pile.

Ah, well. I suppose we've all had books like that -- ones that we anticipated would hit all of the right buttons but just didn't. It always makes me a little sad when that happens. Yeah, I'm weird, I know.

  1. Thanks -- always reading...just a lot more slowly than I used to -- maybe I'd do a lot better if I'd stay off the computer...
