Two Good Dogs

First of all, I'm not very good with photos on the internet -- I get by but sometimes I have to really labor to make things work -- which is why I didn't post a photo of Butler before --
I couldn't figure out how to make it small enough -- but I finally figured it out -- so here is my much-loved and always-to-be-missed brindle boy.

Some of you may know that not only do I have a personal forum (which you can visit by clicking on the banner above right) but I also run a forum for British actor, Jason Flemyng (look on the right side, under "Fangurl" for link). Jason is currently playing the father of Benjamin Button in THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, now playing in theaters everywhere (and, no, I haven't seen it yet). Anyway, several days ago, I sent Jason an e-mail to wish him a merry Christmas and, knowing he is a animal-lover, I told him about Butler. In turn, Jason told me about his dog, Holly, who was very sick -- and that he and his wife, Elly, were facing the decision about putting her down -- which they, unfortunately, had to do yesterday.

Now, I wouldn't wish this on anybody but there is some comfort in knowing that, when we grieve, we are not alone -- and, whether we are a wanna-be author/housewife in Georgia or an British actor appearing on the big screen, we share our sorrow over our four-footed and furry friends.

I love the way the rays of the sun are coming down over Holly's face in this photo -- I don't know if Jason took this photo or someone else did -- but I think it's a beautiful tribute to a much-loved dog.

Eventually, I am going to get over this sadness. Or maybe not over it but through it. I wish the same for Jason and Elly.

Maybe Butler and Holly are nose to nose -- or, more likely, nose to butt -- right now.

  1. What nice pictures! And I'm sure they are giving each other a good sniff right now.

  2. I hope so -- it's a dog's way of shaking hands!

  3. My wonderful Dalmatian had to be put to sleep last year (at almost 14 years old), so I know how hard it is. It does help to have photos. I have a new puppy now, and it isn't the same, of course, but it also helps.

  4. Yes, our new puppy (there's a photo in one of these posts) has certainly brought some joy into the house -- it's still so hard, though -- I still can't believe it.
